Evening Gown

This was my first big dress that I took on. It took me over 3 months as I was designing and sewing while being in school full time. I wore it to two dinner dances, and it is one of my favourite projects!

I created an iridescent effect by layering a soft green chiffon over gold satin, while keeping the sleeves light and airy by using a single layer of the chiffon. The sleeves are definitely my favourite design element, adding a more whimsical feeling to an otherwise simple evening gown. I struggled to add a clean hem on the chiffon with my sewing machine, and didn't account for my increase in height from my boots: the dress hits slightly too short for my taste. If I could do it over I would add about 3 inches to make it floor length.
